Fruit Flies in the Kitchen?
Prudential Pest Management provides fruit fly control services for restaurants and homes in Genesee County and surrounding areas. Most small flies, like Fruit Flies or Drain Moth Flies, have issues with maintenance or sanitation. Many Small Flies in your kitchen breed in the drains, food spillage, or Fruit and vegetables left on the counters, which, if unchecked, the little flies can get out of hand very fast.
Vinegar Flies (Fruit Flies )
Another name for fruit flies is vinegar flies because they are attracted to fermenting foods. Homemade fruit fly traps may relieve you, but the vinegar fly problem will continue until the breeding sites have been appropriately handled. Fruit flies naturally come in on produce, then spread from breeding areas within the kitchen. It gets awful for restaurants when these tiny flies fly around customers while they eat. Check out our Commercial Pest Control Packages.
Sewer Flies (Drain Moth Flies )
Drain Moth Flies look like little brown or tan moths with large rounded wings. Drain Moth Flies breed in organic sludge, such as what is found in sewers, which gives them their common name, sewer flies. Sometimes these sewer flies can be the result of damaged sewer lines.
How to get rid of Fruit flies or Drain Flies.
To prevent minor fly issues, make sure all food spillage has been cleaned up, and use a brush and heavy detergent approved for sewers to clean drains as far down as possible; the point is to dislodge as much of the organic sludge building up on the sides of the pipes as possible. This includes the drains in your bathroom sinks, bathtubs, and showers (See the video below).
This alone is often enough to reduce small fly problems. If you need help getting rid of fruit flies or sewer flies in our service area, give us a call – we are happy to help (810)410-8563
What professionals do to get rid of a small fly problem.
First, we focus on DRAIN CLEANING AND BIO-SANITATION; cleaning drains and reducing organic buildup are essential to any small fly protocol. Physical removal is often required when a heavy advertisement is present. Clean gutters using a Professional cleaning solution for flies, particularly in the areas around the drain opening and drain plate, as these tend to be critical areas that support fruit fly infestations. After drains are cleaned (or in cases of light buildup), we apply a Bio-Sanitation product to reduce organic material and help reduce future buildup. These products are also helpful as the first step in cleaning efforts to help loosen and remove years of grease and grime.
Second, we do DRAIN TREATMENTS for Small Flies, tiny fly larvae, and adults are often found in and around drains. Foam is an excellent delivery mechanism to deposit insecticide 360° onto the sidewalls of pipes where these insects are found. Using standard foaming equipment and the appropriate mix of chemicals deep into the drains, we can make the food material toxic to pests. We may substitute a dust or liquid solution to pour into drains or for use as a mopping solution. Another option exterminators use for fly control is insect growth regulators. Professional bug people may also treat cracks and Crevices like drains, filling areas where pests hide, and leaving behind a residual on all vertical and horizontal surfaces. This process kills adults while diffusing a buildup of organic debris such as missing grout and cracked tiles on floors and walls, pipe penetrations, voids, etc.
